„History of Bulgaria 15th-19th century“ Department

The department was formed in 1958 as a separate section, part of the structure of the Rousse Museum of History. Over 4000 fund pieces have entered in its patrimony in the form of donations and purchases for several decades. The materials have a direct connection with the history of Rousse during the Bulgarian National Revival period.
The most significant among the exponents are the personal belongings, letters, guns, documents of prominent revolutionaries from Rousse, public figures, cultural-education figures whose activity has nation-wide dimensions. With peculiar historical value are: the gun collection, the archive of the Obretenov family, the archive of Panayot Hitov. In the collection of books, which contains Arab, Turkish and Persian manuscripts, incunabulae in Church Slavonic and Turkish, there are unique copies.
Except for the scientific value, the exponents kept in the department's fund have also unquestioned exhibition qualities and are successfully integrated in regional and national exhibitions.

Currently, there are two specialists working in the department: Teodora Bakardzhieva and Reneta Roshkeva
