The Rousse Regional Museum of History implements its cultural activities
on the territory of the districts of Rousse, Razgrad and Silistra.
The museum is opened on January 1st 1904 as a museum collection at the “Knyaz Boris I” Boys' High School. The collection grew into a Town Museum in 1937. It became a state museum in 1949. In 1952 it was announced for a county museum, and since July 2000 – for a regional one. The museum's patrimony contains 130 000 pieces of cultural valuables. The museum implements its activities in the preservation and exhibition of the movable cultural valuables, the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, research on the history and nature of Northeast Bulgaria.
Nowadays the Rousse Regional Museum of History presents seven exhibitions, three of which are open air – the Roman fort of Sexaginta Prista, the Ivanovo Rock-hewn Churches and the Medieval Town of Cherven.
